PMEA District 4
Clinton County Report
October 16, 2011
The good news in Clinton County is we have maintained the
status quo…no losses, no gains.
The elementary general music positions continue to be
filled by Theresa Poole, Sherry McGraw, Martena Rogers and Melissa Parks. They are currently trying to schedule their
holiday programs. A daunting task, considering
the limitations imposed by time, space, and the number of schools vying to book
space in 2 auditoriums.
The elementary instrumental teachers are Ashley Crust,
(who still isn’t hosting 6th
grade Band Fest or Regional Band) and Cynthia Middleton. Their programs are doing well and they are
maintaining strong numbers in grades 4-5 in seven school.
Our string department continues in the able hands of
George and Patti Sheriff. George is
split between the middle school and high school and you are most likely to
catch Patti literally flying between all her schools.
At Central Mountain Middle School Michael Conner and Paul
Nelson hold down the fort. Mike is
putting together a musical - School House Rock- for a January performance. He is also offering a Vocal Techniques class
and a Musical Theater class. Both are
proving to be very popular. Between Mike
and Paul, they involve about 200 students.
The middle school also has acquired a new baby grade piano that is being
put to excellent use.
At Central Mountain High School Dave Sorgen and Scott
Frasier are teach band, chorus and all things musical. Their programs are seeing some difficulties
due to scheduling conflicts but, as usual, they will make the best of a
difficult situation.
Life at Bucktail is never dull. Karen Neff has seen a doubling of the number
of men in chorus. Some even sing! Band is doing well with about 35 students in
the middle school program and 22 in the high school band. Bucktail will be hosting 6th Grade
Band Fest and with guest conductor District 4’s very own Mel McConnell. Plans for the event are well under way.
Sugar Valley Rural Charter School is in the able hands of
Mike Buck and Karen Strong. SVRCS will
be hosting the Clinton County Band Festival in March of 2012.
That is all the news fit to print from Clinton County
Respectfully submitted:
