Juniata County Report – September 22, 2010
In Juniata County, we have no new music personnel to report this year. All of the bands in Juniata County have been active in recent months with countless performances at sporting events, parades, and festivals. The choral programs at the schools are busy preparing for upcoming events, including our annual Christmas Concerts.
On Wednesday, September 15, the Juniata County Marching Band Festival and Cheerleading Exhibition was held at Dietrick Field, Mifflintown. This annual event features our junior and senior high school marching bands and cheerleading squads. The weather this year was beautiful for this event, and approximately 200 students were involved in the performances.
The Juniata High School Chorus will again be performing a cantata with public participation on Sunday, December 19, 2010. The ensemble will number over 100 chorus and community members for this performance and is a highlight of the season. The public performance will begin at 2:00pm and is free! Anyone interested in joining the choir for this event can contact Kevin Cunningham at Juniata High School. There will also be a performance on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM for local senior citizens (our local retirement homes and senior citizen centers usually provide van service). JHS Student Council members help the senior citizens in and out of the school creating a nice interaction between our high school students and the elderly community members.
The East Juniata High School Senior and Junior High Choirs will also be performing a cantata on Sunday, December 12, 2009 at 2:00pm in the East Juniata High School auditorium. The East Juniata Jazz Ensembles as well as the East Juniata High School Senior High and Junior High Concert Bands will be participating in this annual event. Admission is free and light refreshments (aka cookies and punch) will be served after the concert.
East Juniata High School will serve as the host site for the District 4 Jazz Festival. Mike Trego, Tuscarora Junior High School, will co-host the festival with Kevin Milliken. EJ will also be the site for Band Fest in May. Gene Hoffmaster, Mike Trego, and Brent Snyder will co-host (I was going to say tri-host, but that sounds like they do not know what they are doing!) this event at the high school.
Respectfully submitted,
Kevin D. Milliken
