PMEA District 4 & 6 Orchestra

Minimum Competencies for String Applicants

1.  Must be able to tune their own instrument.

2.  Must be able to play two octave scales up to four sharps and flats.

3.  Violins and Violas must know third position.

4.  Cellos and basses must know fourth position.

5.  Must be able to demonstrate proper bowing techniques by performing scales with the following articulations:

    Spiccato

    Marcato

    Detache

6.  Must be able to demonstrate a minimum use of vibrato.

7.  Perform at a level of the musical sample provided by District 4 & 6 Orchestra.
